What the checker looks at
NJDOL's guide to its CSV templates sets an input format for every column and says the Wage Hub shows an error when a format is wrong (How to Use the New Jersey Wage Hub CSV Template, updated January 21, 2025, in the template zip). The checker tests those formats:
- Column names exactly as in NJDOL's Step 2 and Step 3 templates, in the same order.
- Job title: Apprentice, Foreman or Journeyman. Sex: M, F or X. Race: W, B, A, N, I or M. Ethnicity: H or N.
- Dates as mm/dd/yyyy, each one on the right weekday column (Date_Sun is a Sunday, and so on), all within one week.
- Hours such as 8.5, and weekly totals that equal the days added up.
- Rates and amounts written like $95.50 (an amount without the $ is accepted with a warning); fringe benefit costs per hour in Step 3; a nine-digit USDOL benefit plan filing number.
- Deductions_Total equal to FICA, state tax, federal tax and other deductions added up, and Net_Wages_Week equal to Gross_Week minus Deductions_Total, as NJDOL's guide defines it.
Notes on NJDOL's formats
The guide labels the hours format "HH.MM" but gives 8.5 as the example, which reads as eight and a half hours. Check how the Wage Hub shows fractional hours after your upload. The guide lists I as a race code without describing it. Fields may be left blank, and the Wage Hub lets you review and edit the data before you certify.
